Horse & Rider

Holistic horse and rider assessments also available either at your yard/home, or at Ashbourne Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic.

We often only think about our horses when booking Physiotherapy, however your problems affect how your horse is able to move underneath you. Transform your riding, reduce your horses discomfort, and improve your niggles with a joint horse and rider assessment.

Thorough assessment

The assessment usually starts with a few questions to find out what the problem is and establish what we need to consider.

This is followed by a visual assessment of movement and posture of the body as a whole, as well as the specific body parts affected.

Some special tests may be required to establish exactly what is causing the problem. Example of these include specific muscle and tendon tests, nerve tension stretches and reflexes to name but a few.

Finally a hands on assessment to feel whether there is any muscle tension, joint stiffness or local injury.

Hands-on Treatment

This includes soft tissue release techniques and joint mobilisations aimed at restoring optimum body condition and healing conditions. Techniques include massage, trigger point release, myofascial release, mobilisations with movement, neural glides, maitland mobilisations and joint manipulations.

Ultrasound therapy also available for promoting healing and reducing pain and inflammation.

Rehab Programs

At the end of your session you will be provided with specific guidance on what exercises to do at home to speed up the healing process.

Exercises are incredibly important for rehabilitating injuries as they help loosen and strengthen muscles/tendons, loosen joints, mobilise and desensitize nerves, and improve body balance and coordination. Often all or some of these issues are present during injury or trauma and restoring them helps to heal you faster and prevent re-injury.
